Black Friday and Small Business Saturday surprises
Hi there Halo friends,
Happy Fall! I love this time of year. The leaves are changing and so is my coffee order. I’m not a pumpkin spice girl, but I love maple pecan or anything caramel.
I'm really trying to make my coffee at home these days. Picking up coffee from Starbucks or Dunks became such a routine. But that adds up fast and with prices going up everywhere, I decided to get creative at home with different flavored syrups. Does anyone have any good ones??
Psst...surprises coming this Black Friday!
I treat myself once a week to a coffee out, usually on my Saturday shift at Halo, and it tastes so good!! We have to still treat ourselves once in a while.
And speaking of treats, I started working on Halo’s Black Friday specials. These specials will be available to book online, starting on Black Friday on November 28th, and lasting through Small Business Saturday.
Halo will be closed on Black Friday, but you can still book online and take advantage of our holiday specials from the comfort of your couch - we all need a rest day after Thanksgiving. We'll be back open on Small Business Saturday (November 29th).
Spoiler alert…the theme is “get your shine on”. We will have bundles of hair and skin packages, all at a discounted rate.
Starting on November 28th, visit our Phorest booking site, and see what's available.
Product of the month
We'll also post about our product of the month - Goldwell's Dual Senses Rich Repair Serum. We had a team meeting recently and this serum spray was definitely the most talked about.
Want to try it out? Purchase during the month of November and get 20% off.
Quick facts:
Good for dry to damaged hair types.
Uses MicroPROtec Complex, a technology that distributes essential care ingredients quickly and evenly and protects from color fade out.
Spray on towel dried hair to reveal suppleness and shine.
A warm scent of Tonka beans and sandalwood, surrounded by gardenia and precious jasmine.
I hope everyone enjoys November. My November intention is to always be kind, listen and not judge, and always come from a place of love, whatever your intention may be. That, plus plenty of fall coffee treats.
P.S. If you or a neighbor need help to buy food, or you want to support other families in the community, visit the City of Melrose website for updates and resources. Take care of each other.
Community Spotlight
by Julia Mongeau
With the days getting shorter and the cold weather creeping in, I like to find new ways to get out of my apartment and get moving, but also connect with others in my community. Fitness is something I typically gravitate towards, and when looking into local options to spotlight, Barre & Soul in Melrose immediately stood out.
Barre & Soul is located on Franklin St. in Melrose, offering barre, yoga, and Pilates classes. But it’s more than just a fitness studio - it’s a “sanctuary for self-empowerment.”
“Our mission is to foster transformation from the inside out through intentional, soulful movement,” said Kristen, the Melrose studio lead. “Every class is designed to help you channel your inner strength, courage, and authenticity.”
During a class at Barre & Soul, you can expect a warm welcome as soon as you walk in. Throughout class, the instructors offer personalized guidance, using inclusive language, supportive cues, and modifications to help you move safely.
“Our classes are designed for all identities, body types, and experience levels,” said Kristen. “We’re proud to hold space where everybody feels seen, supported, and celebrated.”
"Barre & Soulmates” is in fact a core value of Barre & Soul. There’s something for everyone, and Barre & Soul strives to be a welcoming and inclusive place for all.
“We intentionally foster a culture of connection, encouragement, and belonging,” said Kristen.
If you’re trying to find connection and community while also moving your body, take advantage of the New Client Special. This gives you two weeks of unlimited classes for $33. Try out the different class types and figure out what you like best, and what fits with your schedule. Classes include:
Barre & Soul Method - the studio’s signature blend of ballet, conditioning, Pilates, yoga, and low-impact cardio
Vinyasa Yoga - a dynamic flow in a warmed room, integrating core, back bending, and full-body strength and lengthening
Pilates Mat Fusion - a mat class focused on core strength using props or just your body for resistance
In your first class, try to arrive a little early to meet your instructor and let them know it’s your first time. They’ll make you feel welcome and help you settle in.
As you find a home and routine with Barre & Soul, remember consistency is key. As Kristen says, start small, set goals that feel doable, and celebrate the small wins. Wins can be anything from trying a new class format, holding a plank a little longer, or feeling a little stronger after each class.
“That sense of accomplishment builds momentum,” said Kristen. “And more often than not, you'll leave class feeling better than when you walked in - and that feeling will keep you coming back.”
Barre & Soul regularly holds seasonal workshops and special events. During November and December, check out the following:
Inversion workshop with Rosy (November 16) - Learn the foundations of poses like crow, side crow, headstand, and handstand, in a supportive, playful environment. Explore what your body can do upside down!
Holiday Pop-Up Events (December) - Celebrate the holiday season by staying committed to your classes and supporting local artists and small business owners while you get your workout and holiday shopping done!
Sometimes finding community and connection is a challenge, and that sort of community is vital to our overall health and wellbeing. The Melrose Barre & Soul studio is “a true hub for local connection”, right on Franklin St. If you’re looking to try something new this fall, or get back into a routine, check out Barre & Soul. You’ll walk away with more than just a new routine.
“Come as you are, and leave feeling more connected, empowered, and alive,” said Kristen.
