Prioritize yourself with a pumpkin facial
Good morning Halo Friends,
How are you feeling?? I tend to love September. The start of changing seasons, back to routines, and of course the song "September" by Earth, Wind & Fire.
But I also realize that September comes with a lot of adjustments. Back to the “real world” of school, schedules, sports, you name it.
Whatever it was, September felt busy. I'm guessing that's where some of you may be at as well.
Rest and relaxation
We were a little quieter at Halo this past month. This seems to be the time of year when we put ourselves last again because we're taking care of so many other people or other things.
I'm so grateful that I put Miraval on the books again.
My husband, Mark, and I also spent a few days up in Lenox for some much needed R&R. We started with a meditative sound bowl session, which started our trip perfectly. I placed my intention - take care of me. And for three days that's what I did.
I did a bunch of yoga, and I learned about astrology. I got a massage and I read an entire book. Mark and I had a whole conversation from start to finish, and we ended our visit with a tarot card reading with Dr. Jan. It was amazing. And with that, our trip was complete. We drove home feeling rested, connected, and a lot freer.
My goal moving forward is to continue taking care of myself, because I'm just as important as everyone else. And so are you. We always seem to get everything done for everyone else in our lives. Why not ourselves too?
I hope this inspires you to do the same. Book that trip, or appointment, or dinner. Just do you when you can. Make yourself a priority.
Happy October!

Erica Meimei is the Head of Marketing at Skybound Fitness in Malden. She and her husband opened Skybound after they noticed a lack of fitness options for people who were new to lifting weights.
Skybound is “truly a labor of love,” and Erica and her team care about each person who comes to workout.
“We wanted to create a place where beginners could feel supported, not intimidated, and where building strength feels fun and empowering,” said Erica.
Skybound’s mission is to make strength training and fitness approachable and accessible for everyone.
It's intimidating walking into a fitness space for the first time. Maybe you’re just starting out and aren’t sure which weights to use. Maybe you’ve told yourself that gyms aren’t a space where you belong.
Erica relates to that feeling. She wasn’t an athlete growing up and always thought of herself as the “creative kid”. But everyone can enjoy the fitness experience at Skybound.
Skybound is not your typical weightlifting space. It has a bright and welcoming atmosphere that invites you in, and a supportive team is ready to guide you each step of the way.
“If you’re feeling nervous, that actually means you’re the perfect fit for Skybound,” said Erica. “All you need is the willingness to learn and the desire to show up. We’ll take care of the rest.”
Skybound offers three types of strength-focused classes, capped at 10 people per class, so you get 1 on 1 attention from the certified trainers.
They designed three types of workout classes to “help you move with more ease and confidence in everyday life.”
For example, the Jump & Hang class focuses on squats and chin-ups so you can pick up your kids, nieces, or nephews. Push & Sprint classes include bench presses and single leg movements to help you move with power. And the Lift & Launch classes have you working deadlifts and overhead presses so you can safely lift heavy items.
The varied workouts help clients work all muscle groups throughout the week, getting stronger with a consistent routine.
Routine and self-care are two favorite themes here at Halo, so I asked Erica how she encourages her clients to practice self-care.
“To me, self-care is about giving yourself grace,” said Erica. “You won’t always get the perfect amount of sleep, or stick to every workout or meal plan - and that’s okay.”
Erica and the team at Skybound encourage the same practice for their clients.
“The small consistent steps really add up,” said Erica.
The team at Skybound loves being a part of the Malden community. Every month, there’s a Beginner Strength Training Workshop (the next one is on October 18). They also recently launched a free Walk Club, so neighbors can come together and get moving. You can sign up for events here: https://www.eventbrite.com/o/skybound-barbell-club-103064962661.
“Fitness can feel vulnerable, but we believe that’s what makes it powerful—and we’re here to support you every step of the way,” said Erica.
